Ajmer is a major tourist attraction of Rajasthan for a number of reasons. Tours in Ajmer might not be a usual holiday phenomenon for many people, but this place reverberates the spiritual energy and fervour. Ajmer is situated amidst the picturesque Aravalli range and about 135 kms from the state capital Jaipur and 391 kms from New Delhi. Other major tourist destinations of Rajasthan are also in close proximity from Ajmer. The city was founded by Chauhan rulers in the 7th century and later on in 1193, came under the regime of Muhammad Ghori and became part of Delhi Sultanate.
Ajmer is a cheerful city of different culture and religions. To start with, the Dargah of famous sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti is the major landmark of this place. The dargah can be found at the foot of the Taragarh hill and is always surrounded by devotees and visitors all the year. The annual pilgrimage or Urs of this holy place attracts visitors from across the world from different religious faiths. It is divided into two courtyards encompassing several marble buildings with delicate carvings and calligraphic inscriptions on the walls, amplifying the prominence further.
